Disappearance of zero sound in asymmetric nuclear matter

1997

Abstract We investigate the thermal RPA response of asymmetric nuclear matter interacting through a Skyrme interaction. For every spin-isospin channel, the evolution of the zero sound as a function of both neutron excess and temperature is analyzed.

Quasi-classical Physics Within Quantum Criticality in HF Compounds

2014

In this chapter, we explore how the fermion condensation paves the road for quasi-classical physics in HF compounds. This means simply that systems with FC admit partly the quasi-classical description of their thermodynamic and transport properties. This, in turn, simplifies a lot not only of their description but permits to gain more insights both in the puzzling NFL physics of HF compounds and of the physics of FC itself. The quasi-classical physics starts to be applicable near FCQPT, at which FC generates flat bands and quantum criticality, and makes the density of electron states in strongly correlated metals diverge. As we shall see, due to the formation of flat bands the strongly corr…

A density functional for liquid3He

1993

We present a density functional for the description of liquid3He properties at zero temperature in a mean field approximation. Its basic ingredients are a zero-range, particle- and spin-density dependent effective interaction of Skyrme type, and a long-range effective interaction of Lennard-Jones type supplemented with a weighted density approximation similar to the one used in the study of classical fluids, to phenomenologically account for short range correlations. After fixing the value of its parameters, the functional yields a good description of the equation of state and Landau parameters (spin symmetric and spin antisymmetric as well) from saturation to solidification densities. The …

Neutrino propagation and spin zero sound in hot neutron matter with Skyrme interactions

1999

We present microscopic calculations of neutrino propagation in hot neutron matter above nuclear density within the framework of the Random Phase Approximation . Calculations are performed for non- degenerate neutrinos using various Skyrme effective interactions. We find that for densities just above nuclear density, spin zero sound is present at zero temperature for all Skyrme forces considered. However it disappears rapidly with increasing temperature due to a strong Landau damping. As a result the mean-free path is given, to a good approximation, by the mean field value. Because of the renormalization of the bare mass in the mean field, the medium is more transparent as compared to the fr…

Enhancement of nucleon-nucleon cross section in sidewards flowing nuclear matter through zero sound mode excitation

1998

We investigate the modification induced on the nucleon-nucleon cross section by screening of the interaction inside nuclear matter. The interaction is described by the relativistic one boson exchange of $\sigma$, $\omega$ and $\pi$ mesons. Medium effects enter as loop corrections to the meson propagators and are characterized not only by density, but also by temperature and velocity with respect to the center of mass of the collision. The cross section displays peaks for some specific values of the velocity, corresponding to the excitation of zero-sound modes of the longitudinal $\omega$ field. The enhancement factor amounts to about 1.5 under reasonable conditions. It increases with densit…

Elastic constants in RbI, determined by inelastic neutron scattering

1978

Long-wavelength acoustic phonons have been studied in the whole (100)-plane of RbI at 295 K by means of inelastic neutron scattering. The raw data have been corrected for resolution effects taking into account the curvature of the dispersion surface and variations of the mode eigenvectors. The shifts of the neutron groups due to these resolution effects are discussed in detail. The analysis of the experimental results gives for the zero sound elastic constantsc11=28.15±0.5,c12=3.7±0.5 andc44=2.85±0.1 1010 dyn/cm2. A comparison with first sound elastic constants taken from ultrasonic measurements yields significant differences between the high and low frequency elastic constantsc11 andc″=(c1…
